Therapy with Sarah

What to expect when we work together.

Therapy with me is grounded in calm, respectful presence.

You’ll find a steady space to speak freely, without judgement or pressure. This page offers a sense of what it’s like to work with me, from the first steps to how sessions unfold.

Arranging our first meeting.

Speak on the Phone

We will speak on the phone. You can ask questions and I can outline how we might work together.

Arrange a time to meet

We will arrange a time for our first meeting, and I will send you my client information pack.

Our first meeting

Our first meeting is a chance for us to get to know each other. It is also a chance to go through any questions you might have.

Our first meeting.

In our first session, we’ll take time to settle in and go over a few practicalities – like confidentiality, how I work, and any questions you may have.

It’s completely normal to feel nervous. Starting therapy can feel like a big step. That’s why I offer a reduced fee for this first session—to give you space to see how it feels without pressure.

This meeting is also a chance for you to decide if I’m the right counsellor for you, and whether therapy feels like the right support for you at this time.

What Sessions Are Like?

Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place weekly, in person, in a comfortable and private space.

There’s no set agenda – this is your space to bring whatever you need. Some weeks that might be something very present, other times it might be something deeper or long-standing. We go at your pace.

What is Person-Centred Therapy?

I work in a Person-Centred way, which means our sessions are shaped by you—not by diagnosis or directives.

My role is to offer empathy, honesty, and respect, so you can explore what matters most to you in a safe relationship. Over time, many people find this approach helps them reconnect with themselves and move forward with greater clarity or self-acceptance.

Safe and Ethical practice

I work to the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which guides and supports how I work with clients.

  • We’ll agree how we’ll work together in what’s called a Counselling Agreement—this includes things like confidentiality, session structure, and what we can both expect.
  • You decide how many sessions you want. There’s no fixed number, and we’ll regularly review how it’s going and whether it’s meeting your needs.
  • If you ever feel unhappy with something, I hope you’d feel able to talk to me about it. But you’re also entitled to contact the BACP directly if you’d prefer.
